It's important to keep your ‘Track your location’ up-to-date at all times. This is used by the Deloitte team in the US and in your home country.
The ‘Track your location’ should confirm which country you're in and where you’re working each day. The ‘Track your location’ can be completed in the GA Portal or you can use the GlobalAdvantage App on your phone where available.
Keeping ‘Track your location’ up to date allows us to correctly assess your US tax residence position and can determine the taxable portion of your pay that needs to be reported in the US. You should continue to use the calendar until Deloitte is no longer authorized to support you, to ensure all the required information has been completed before your US tax return needs to be submitted.
It is recommended to retain relevant records. Examples include:
These records may be required for accurate completion of your US tax return and will be needed if the IRS decide to audit your tax return.
These records should be retained for at least 3 years after the date your US tax return is filed.
We will contact you in January or February and ask you to complete the AboutMe on the GA portal. This online questionnaire will provide us with information needed to complete your tax return.
You should make sure the AboutMe is completed the end of February/March, depending on the agreement with your employer.
The exact deadlines will be confirmed to you when we contact you to kick-off the tax return process.
The filing deadline is April 15th or the next business day if on a weekend.
We will ask you to log in and provide approval via GA Portal. We will send out detailed instructions on how to do this at a later time.
We'll send you reminders closer to the deadline. After the April 15th sentence. Add "If needed, a 6 month extension to file can be requested. An extension payment may be required to mitigate late payment interest and/or penalties.
Any additional US tax owed, must also be paid to the tax authorities by April 15 after the tax year ends. If this date falls on a national or public holiday, the weekend, or in extraordinary circumstances, for example federally-declared disaster, the deadline will be adjusted accordingly.
We will let you know about any payments you need to make yourself and how you can do this, alongside your tax return.
Remember, it's a good idea to keep your US bank account open until any payments or repayments have been settled.
As mentioned, if an extension has been filed, an extension payment may be required if there is unpaid balance on the return in order to mitigate late payment interest and/or penalties.
